  In HTML5, CSS selectors seem to operate well with data-* attributes. For example: <style> div[data-foo='bar'] { background:#eee; } </style> <div data-foo='bar'>colored</div> <div>not colored</div> will properly style the first . But, attempts to select such elements using the selectors-api fail. Examples: var foos = document.querySelectorAll("div[data-foo]='bar'"); or var foos = document.querySelectorAll("div data-foo='bar'"); in Chrome and Safari, this produces a cryptic error: SYNTAX_ERR: DOM Exception 12 Any thoughts on how to use the selectors-api to properly select elements on the basis of data-* attributes?

• Error running celeryd

  I'm posting this question (and answer) so if anybody else has this problem in the future, you'll be able to google it. If you are trying to run celeryd in Django like so: python manage.py celeryd You can receive the following error immediately after it has started: celery@eric-desktop-dev has started.   stackoverflow, I am experimenting with implementing OpenID in my existing site. I have looked at Plaxo's article on this very subject and I'm a mite confused about something. I am using this PHP OpenID library. I have some code running, and I am getting a unique OpenID back. From myopenid.com, I am getting an id that looks like https://mecablaze.myopenid.com/ But from Yahoo and Google, I am getting an ID that much more cryptic, e.g. https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=AItOawlbp1cxujdJWDnpx72xVROOw-5V_WzIDZA Are Google's and Yahoo's "gibberish" ids unique for every login user, i.e. is this the value that I use to tie in with existing user on my web app?

• Is it actually possible to connect to ActiveMQ via XMPP and query/browse queues using "AciveMQ.Agen

  I tried what I think are 4 most popular XMPP (aka "Jabber") clients (Spark, Pidgin, Psi, Pandion) to connect to ActiveMQ instance (Apache ActiveMQ ver. 5.3.0) on XMMP connector with an idea to use the "AciveMQ.Agent chatroom" for querying queues/etc and no success at all Some of them fail with 'Unknown error', some don't fail but kind of "hang"... interestingly, some communication does indeed reach the ActiveMQ side, because when I close a client it spits an exception "could not close" or something to that effect... and if I try "register new user" option (present on most clients" the ActiveMQ also spits some most cryptic warning message But I was never able to get to the point when I could see or specify "ActiveMQ.Agent" as chatroom and issue any commands... Before I waste any more time on this curious feature, I would like to hear whether anyone had any success with it? Thank you! PS: BTW, the book "ActiveMQ in Action book" http://www.manning.com/snyder/ shows that it is apparently works and is very easy using some Mac client (AdiumX), but I wanted it on a Windows PC ;)

• What Java portal server do you use?

  I've been tasked with learning Vignette and setting it up is a nightmare. There are many different components in the wizard. If something fails, you get a cryptic error message and then have to start again. This is the worst "Wizard" since Kwame Brown. Are there other Portal servers out there that are easy to configure, or at least seem to have kept a developer's sanity in mind during configuration? To those that have used several different portal servers, which is your favorite?

• Jetty 6: Unknown Error 99

  The system I'm developing is comprised of a jetty server (v6.1.2rc4) and a php frontend that sends http requests to jetty via curl_exec. The server and the client are on the same machine. The requests I send can be both POSTs and GETs, I get the same error for either which is: Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1: Unknown error 99 This is rather cryptic. It seems that after the first problematic request, some of the following (unrelated) requests also get corrupted. It looks like jetty is simply refusing the connection, but I can't read more than that into the error message. I thought it was a problem with the server's configuration, so I tried changing jetty's maxIdleTimeMs, but without success. Any idea about what to do is welcome thanks, Silvio

  Hey, I am making some stuff in Objective-C++... And I must say that I am a total newbie when it comes to the Objective-C part... I don't really want to learn it, I kinda just need it for accessing a few Mac APIs (ObjC is such a dumb language). So - compiling with g++ -x objective-c++ - and I somehow keep getting this warning: XXX may not respond to YYY First it was with a NSScreen, now it is with a NSWindow: NSWindow may not respond to +initWithContentRect:styleMask:backing:defer: I saw somewhere that I should cast it to id, but didn't work, throwing absolutely cryptic errors... So - WHAT does this warning actually mean and HOW am I supposed to make it stop?

• vim - how am I suppose to read this command to remove all blanks at the end of a line

  I happened across this page full of super useful and rather cryptic vim tips at http://rayninfo.co.uk/vimtips.html. I've tried a few of these and I understand what is happening enough to be able to parse it correctly in my head so that I can possibly recreate it later. One I'm having a hard time getting my head wrapped around though are the following two commands to remove all spaces from the end of every line :%s= *$== : delete end of line blanks :%s= \+$== : Same thing I'm interpreting %s as string replacement on every line in the file, but after that I am getting lost in what looks like some gnarly variation of :s and regex. I'm used to seeing and using :s/regex/replacement. But the above is super confusing. What do those above commands mean in english, step by step?

• RODBC sqlSave and column names

  I've a question about using sqlSave. How maps RODBC data in the data frame to the database table columns? If I've a table with columns X and Y and a data frame with columns X and Y, RODBC puts X into X and Y into Y (I found out by trail-and-error). But can I explicitly tell R how to map data.frame columns to database table columns, like put A in X and B in Y. I'm rather new to R and think the RODBC manual is a bit cryptic. Nor can I find an example on the internet.

  I just asked a question related to how the compiler optimizes certain C++ code, and I was looking around SO for any questions about how to verify that the compiler has performed certain optimizations. I was trying to look at the assembly listing generated with g++ (g++ -c -g -O2 -Wa,-ahl=file.s file.c) to possibly see what is going on under the hood, but the output is too cryptic to me. What techniques do people use to tackle this problem, and are there any good references on how to interpret the assembly listings of optimized code or articles specific to the GCC toolchain that talk about this problem?

  Sorry for the cryptic title. I have associated python scripts with a batch file that looks like this: python %* I did this because on my machine, python is installed at C:\python26 and I prefer not to reinstall it (for some reason, it won't let me add a file association to the python interpreter. I can copy the executable to Program Files and it works -- but nothing out of Program Files seems to work). Anyways, I can do this, so far: C:\py django-admin C:\py python "C:\python26\Lib\site-packages\django\bin\django-admin.py" Type 'django-admin.py help' for usage. C:\py django-admin startproject myProj C:\py python "C:\python26\Lib\site-packages\django\bin\django-admin.py" Type 'django-admin.py help' for usage. but the additional parameters don't get passed along to the batch script. This is getting very annoying, all I want to do is run python scripts :) How can I grab the rest of the parameters in this situation?

• Where is Python support for PEM + RSA + DES3?

  I need a Python library that supports PEM files and both RSA signing and DES3 encryption. pycrypto doesn't seem to support PEM, and its mechanism for loading existing keys is undocumented and cryptic. m2crypto doesn't seem to support DES/DES3, oddly. I've been running an openssl subprocess, but I'd rather have something built in and preferably fast. Does this exist? (Failing that, I hesitate to ask, but are there high-level enough C apis available for this that I could write a special-purpose extension without killing myself/introducing vulns?)

  I have a web application project made in Visual Studio 2008. Well, I added a jquery folder and added it to source control and other such things. I forgot to add it to the visual studio project though. How do I add the existing folder now? I've tried just creating a new folder and naming it jquery but it gave me a cryptic error "the directory is already on the disk ... if you want to see this directory then check the Show All Files option in the project file" Yet I looked and saw no such option. Is the only way around this to rename jquery to jquery2 and then create a new folder via visual studio named jquery and copy all my files into it?

• How to list library dependencies of a non-native binary?

  When developing for native platform, I can use ldd to list all the shared libraries (.so files) a binary executable I build will try to load upon start-up. But when cross-compiling, I don't know how to get the same information. The ldd is not a normal binutils utility, like strip or ar, that can be built alongside gcc for cross compiling, but instead, it is a cryptic shell script that apparently can only run on native platform. So, using the cross-target binutils tools, is there any way to get a list of the dynamically linked dependency for of a foreign binary?

• Create and use a Button class on AS3.0

  I am currently working on a game and it is all going well. On the shop screen there are several buttons that affect the player's stats for when the player restarts the game. The button's names (with a text on the left), however, are rather cryptic and it's hard to figure out what they do unless you test or something. So the solution I came up with, is to create an InfoBox with an InfoText inside so that when the cursor is over the button it appears with the description, cost and etc. This I managed to do too however, the way I was about to do it would mean that I had to create 3 event listeners per button (CLICK, ROLL_OVER, ROLL_OUT) and, obviously, 3 functions connected to each event listener. Now, I don't mind much about having 1 event listener per button, for the click, but since the other events are just to make a box appear and disappear as well as display some text, I thought it was way too much of a mess of code. I have been fiddling with the code for like 3 hours yesterday and no luck... can anyone give me some pointers on how I should go about doing it?

  Oracle's Primavera product team has announced this week that general availability of our first Oracle BI (OBI) based analytical product with pre-built business intelligence dashboards, reports and KPIs built in. P6 Analytics uses OBI's drill-down capabilities, summarizations, hierarchies and other BI features to provide knowledge to your business users to make the best decisions on portfolios, projects, schedules & resources with deep insights. Without needing to launch into the P6 tool, your executives, PMO, project sponsors, etc. can view up to date project performance information as well as historic trends of project performance. Using web-based portal technology, P6 Analytics makes it easy to manage by exception and then drill down to quickly identify root cause analysis of problem projects. At the same time, a brand new version of the P6 Reporting Database R2 was just announded and is also now available. This updated reporting database provides you with 4 star schemas with spread data and includes P6 activity, project and resource codes. You can use the data warehouse and ETL functions of the P6 Reporting Database R2 with your own reporting tools or build dashboards that utilize the hierarchies & drill down to the day-level on scheduled activities using Busines Objects, Cognos, Microsoft, etc. Both of these products can be downloaded from E-Delivery under the Primavera applications section in the P6 EPPM v7.0 media pack. • Streaming Netflix Media with My Wii

  Late last year, I wrote about Streaming Media with my Sony Blu-ray Disc Player. I am still digging the Blu-ray player setup but guess what showed up in the mail yesterday?   That’s right!  A free Netflix disc which now let’s me instantly watch TV episodes and movies via my Wii console.  I popped the disc into the console and in less than 2 minutes the brain-numbingly simple activation was complete.  (Full-disclosure: I already had my Wi-Fi connection configured, but I’m confident that the Netflix installation disc would have helpfully walked me through this additional step if need be.) As it turns out, the Wii Netflix UI offers far more options than what one gets with the Blu-ray setup.  Not only can I view my Instant Queue, but there’s a list of recently watched movies, a list of recommended titles by category, the star rating system, movies information and nearly everything you find on the web.  I reread Steve Krug’s Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability on a flight back from Orlando on Wednesday, so my current view of the world may be a little skewed but, the brilliance of Netflix Wii’s user interface is undeniable. It’s not like the Blu-ray navigation is complicated but the Wii navigation feels familiar and intuitive. How intuitive?  Well, you won’t find a single bit of help text on any of the Wii screens – just a simple and obvious point-and-click navigation system.  And the UI is really pretty (which is still very important if you ask me) and so easy it became fun. Did I mention the media streaming works!  Yep, we watched 2 half-hour kid videos yesterday without any streaming issues at all.  If you have a Netflix account and a Wii, order your disc and give it a go. It’s good stuff.

• Reclaim Vertical UI Space by Adding a Toolbar to the Left or Right Side of Firefox

  Do you need to make the most efficient use possible of vertical UI space on your system’s screen, but have horizontal space to spare? Now you can shift the toolbar icons and their awesome functionality to a slim sidebar in Firefox using the Vertical Toolbar extension. As you can see above the sidebar even picked up on our Personas Theme to help it blend in nicely with the rest of the browser. You can access the options for the new toolbar by right clicking within the toolbar area. These are the options for the toolbar…you can choose the side of Firefox that works best for toolbar placement, adjust display, hiding, & animation settings, define how the buttons display, and add/remove additional buttons as desired. Once you open the Customize Toolbar Window make any desired additions or removals just like you would before on the top UI section and close when finished. • Cancel Windows Domain Membership durin Suse installation

  0 vote down star Hi, I am installing SUSE 11.2, and went with the default options, now it reached the point of "Windows Domain Membership". At job I do not remember the right names, so I tried some but I get an error message which says "cannot use the group "WORKGROUP" for Linux authentication", etc. So I would like to avoid windows authentication, but at this point I do not see this option. I can only try domain names or abort the installation. What could I do here in order to finish the installation without windows memebership? Thanks
