I don't understand how this is happening since "Resource temporarily unavailable" is supposed to correspond to EAGAIN as far as I know. I'm sure there must be something simple I'm missing. And yes, I know this is not a full proof way to test and I account for that.

• How to put foreign key constraints on a computed fields in sql server?

  Table A has a computed field called Computed1. It's persisted and not null. Also, it always computes to an expression which is char(50). It's also unique and has a unique key constraint on it. Table B has a field RefersToComputed1, which should refer to a valid Computed1 value. Trying to create a foreign key constraint on B's RefersToComputed1 that references A' Computed1 leads to the following error: Error SQL01268: .Net SqlClient Data Provider: Msg 1753, Level 16, State 0, Line 1 Column 'B.RefersToComputed1' is not the same length or scale as referencing column 'A.Computed1' in foreign key 'FK_B_A'. Columns participating in a foreign key relationship must be defined with the same length and scale. Q: Why is this error created? Are there special measures needed for foreign keys for computed columns, and if so what are they? Summary: The specific problem rises from computed, char based, fields being varchar. Hence, Computed1 is varchar(50) and not char(50). It's best to have a cast surrounding a computed field's expression to force it to a specific type. Credit goes to Cade Roux for this tip.

The problem is that we want it to be run in a different thread.   I have tried the following code in a win32 app that shows a drop down menu on clicking a button. However, this does not work in WinCE as MENUINFO is not defined.   I've just tried to create the smallest possible language interpreter. Would you like to join and try? Rules of the game: You should specify a programming language you're interpreting. If it's a language you invented, it should come with a list of commands in the comments. Your code should start with example program and data assigned to your code and data variables. Your code should end with output of your result. It's preferable that there are debug statements at every intermediate step. Your code should be runnable as written. You can assume that data are 0 and 1s (int, string or boolean, your choice) and output is a single bit. The language should be Turing-complete in the sense that for any algorithm written on a standard model, such as Turing machine, Markov chains, or similar of your choice, it's reasonably obvious (or explained) how to write a program that after being executred by your interpreter performs the algorithm. The length of the code is defined as the length of the code after removal of input part, output part, debug statements and non-necessary whitespaces. Please add the resulting code and its length to the post. You can't use functions that make compiler execute code for you, such as eval(), exec() or similar. • php $_FILES error code returning an unexpected error

  I have some code that allows users to upload multiple files at once. It was never getting to a specific point after the upload, so I put in an echo to test for the value of the error code, and it's returning a value that I'm not sure I understand. Here's what's confusing: after I submit my form, I go and look in my uploads directory, and the files I've selected through the form are there - they uploaded correctly. However, the code is jumping into the else clause and $error is returning 4, which the php manual indicates means that no file was uploaded. Any ideas? The files very clearly are getting where they're supposed to. Is there some other definition of "uploaded" that isn't happening?

EDIT: Looks like Kohana ORM is not that flexible. ORM is probably not the way to go and works best for completely new projects where the data model can be altered. The reason being that the key names must follow a specific naming convention or else they won't relate in Kohana.

• Single Form with Multiple Dynamic Buttons

  I've spent hours/days trying to figure this out and now I'm completely perplexed so I thought I'd give stackoverflow a try. I'm (a newb) working in Java/JSP using Eclipse hosting on Google App Engine trying to develop an app for a volunteer organization I'm a member of. Rather than embarrass myself by showing my current code I'd love just a nudge in the right direction. I have a form (which doubles as a report basically) showing "people" grouped under the "task" they are currently working on. I would like to select multiple people from multiple tasks and reassign them to another task e.g. Bill and Jane are Gardening, Jeff is Painting. I want to select Jane and Jeff (all people have an associated checkbox in the form) and re-assign them to Sweeping (which is a task on the form but has no people assigned to it yet). Ideally, the re-assignment to Sweeping would be via a Sweeping button (each task would have a dynamically-created task button) that would pass the "Sweeping" value to a servlet along with an array or list of people whose checkbox has been checked. The servlet would handle the request (creating an Assignment "object/entity" with timeStamp, personId, taskId) and then re-direct back to the form/report which would then repaint with the current tasks/people generated from the Assignments class in the datastore. All the tasks are user-defined and retrieved from the database when building the form. Ditto the people. I've been trying to keep the jsp for presentation and the servlets for the processing but I'm no purist and would just like to get unstuck. Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

• Dojo 1.8: Getting dest.appendChild is not a function while rendering a custom template

  After adding in the WidgetsInTemplateMixin, I am receiving an error dest.appendChild is not a function In the documentation, it claims that there will be an error if this.containerNode is not able to contain any child objects. However, I have marked the containerNode attachment point for a div with dojo type "dijit/layout/ContentPane". Can anyone explain to me why this isn't working? • WiX: Define made in included file not avaible from wxs-fragment-file.

  I have a defines.wxi-file which contains some good definitions used in all my wxs-files. When I attempt to reference the defined value from one of the <Fragment>-files I get Undefined preprocessor variable '$(var.IMAGE_FOLDER)' back in my face. I guess there is something trivial I am missing here... Any ideas? Edit 19:th April. Found that issue only occurs if reference from a Fragment-file. • How to determine the data type of a CvMat

  When using the CvMat type, the type of data is crucial to keeping your program running. For example, depending on whether your data is type float or unsigned char, you would choose one of these two commands: cvmGet(mat, row, col); cvGetReal2D(mat, row, col); Is there a universal approach to this? If the wrong data type matrix is passed to these calls, they crash at runtime. This is becoming an issue, since a function I have defined is getting passed several different types of matrices. How do you determine the data type of a matrix so you can always access its data? I tried using the "type()" function as such. • What's the purpose of "import package"?

  As I just found out import package does not make the package's modules available through package.module. The same obviously holds true for from package import subpackage as well as from package import * What's the purpose of importing a package at all then if I can't access its submodules but only the objects defined in __init__.py? It makes sense to me that from package import * would bloat the namespace, which, however, doesn't apply in case of the other two ways! I also understand that loading all submodules might take a long time. But I don't know what these unwanted side-effects, "that should only happen when the sub-module is explicitly imported", are which the author of the previous link mentions. To me it looks like doing an import package[.subpackage] (or from package import subpackage) makes absolutely no sense if I don't exactly want to access objects provided in __init__.py. Are those unwanted side effects really that serious that the language actually has to protect the programmer from causing them? Actually, I thought that Python was a little bit more about "If the programmer wants to do it, let him do it." In my case, I really do want to import all submodules with the single statement from package import subpackage, because I need all of them! Telling Python in the init.py file which submodules I'm exactly talking about (all of them!) is quite cumbersome from my point of view. Please enlighten me. :)

• Fork in Perl not working inside a while loop reading from file

  Hi, I'm running a while loop reading each line in a file, and then fork processes with the data of the line to a child. After the first round of processes I get some PID equal to 0, the @qpid array gets mixed up, and the file starts to get read at (apparently) random places, jumping back and forth.   Summary: I'm trying to write a text string to a column of type varchar(max) using ODBC and SQL Server 2005. It fails if the length of the string is greater than 8000. Help! I have some C++ code that uses ODBC (SQL Native Client) to write a text string to a table.   It's a real shame that in .Net there is no polymorphism for numbers, i.e. no INumeric interface that unifies the different kinds of numerical types such as bool, byte, uint, int, etc. In the extreme one would like a complete package of abstract algebra types. Joe Duffy has an article about the issue: http://www.bluebytesoftware.com/blog/CommentView,guid,14b37ade-3110-4596-9d6e-bacdcd75baa8.aspx How would you express this in C#, in order to retrofit it, without having influence over .Net or C#? I have one idea that involves first defining one or more abstract types (interfaces such as INumeric - or more abstract than that) and then defining structs that implement these and wrap types such as int while providing operations that return the new type (e.g. Integer32 : INumeric; where addition would be defined as public Integer32 Add(Integer32 other) { return Return(Value + other.Value); } I am somewhat afraid of the execution speed of this code but at least it is abstract. No operator overloading goodness... Any other ideas? .Net doesn't look like a viable long-term platform if it cannot have this kind of abstraction I think - and be efficient about it.   I'm trying to replace a set of characters within a string. The string may or may not have any data to change. The string is marked up in a way that allows for it to change it's color from a set of characters. The string can reset it's it's formatting to default by using a defined set of characters. This setup is very much like the ECMA-48 standard used on LINUX consoles for colors and other special effects. • Using java2d user space measurements with TextLayout and LineBreakMeasurer

  I have a java2d image defined in user space (mm) to print an identity card. The transformation to pixels is by using an AffineTransform for the required DPI (Screen or print). The font size is calculated as best vertical fit for the number of lines in an area with the calculation as below. E.g. attr.put(TextAttribute.SIZE, (geTextArea().getHeight() / noOfLines - LINE_SPACING) ); When using g2d.drawString("Some text to display", x, y); the font size appears correct. Does anyone have a better way of doing text layout in user space co-ords?

• Entity Framework 4 and SYSUTCDATETIME ()

  Hi, I use EF4 and C#. I have a Table in my DataBase (MS SQL 2008) with a default value for a column SYSUTCDATETIME (). The Idea is to automatically add Date and Time as soon as a new record is Created. I create my Conceptual Model using EF4, and I have created an ASP.PAGE with a DetailsView Control in INSERT MODE. My problems: When I create a new Record. EF is not able to insert the actual Date and Time value but it inserts instead this value 0001-01-01 00:00:00.00. I suppose the EF is not able to use SYSUTCDATETIME () defined in my DataBase Any idea how to solve it? • How do I implement page authorizaton in ASP.NET using a SQL store instead of web.config?

  For instance, the way we're doing it now is like thus: (in the web.config) <location path="somePath"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow roles="approvedRoles"/> <deny users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> And what I would like to do instead is to store this information in SQL somewhere so that we can manipulate the information more easily. But we want to keep the same functionality that having the information in web.config provides, just like we can use a SqlRoleProvider instead of hardcoding roles in the app. So in other words, if a user currently tries to goto "somePath" and they're not a member of "approvedRoles" then they get redirected back to default.aspx, and if they are a member of "approvedRoles" then they get the page. I want to do the same thing, but without using web.config as the authorization mechanism. So what I'm NOT asking is how do I go about defining roles, or how do I handle logging in to the database, but specifically how do I store the above information in SQL instead of web.config. Actually, I'll take "anywhere but web.config" for now. Any ideas? Is this possible using a "Provider" class? I'm just looking for pointers on what to inherit and maybe some technet documentation. In this regard my googlefoo is lacking since I don't really know where to point. Am I really only looking for AzMan? Is this location-authorization-via-SQL already defined in the default aspnetdb somewhere and I'm missing it? For that matter, has this question already been asked on SO and I've missed it? What would you google?

• How to detect back button or forward button navigation in a silverlight navigation application

  When a Page is navigated to in silverlight you can override this method. protected override void OnNavigatedTo(NavigationEventArgs e) { base.OnNavigatedTo(e); } The NavigationEventArgs has a NavigationMode enumeration which is defined as public enum NavigationMode { New = 0, Back = 1, Forward = 2, Refresh = 3, } But calling e.NavigationMode always throws a NotImplementedException Is there a way in silverlight to detect a page is being navigated to because the user hit the forward/back browser button. What I am trying to achieve is some kind of state that can be preserved when the user hits the back button. For example assume you have a customer page which is showing a list of customers in a datagrid. The user can select a customer and there is a detail view which shows all the orders for that customer. Now within an order item you can click a hyperlink link that takes you to the shipping history of the order which is a separate page. When the user hits the back button I want to go back to the customers page and automatically select the customer he was viewing. Is this possible at all ? I also tried out the fragment navigation feature NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("#currentcustomerid=" + customer.Id.ToString(), UriKind.Relative)); when the customer selection changes but this adds too many items to the history when the user clicks various customers on the customer page. EDIT There is also an method you can override protected override void OnNavigatingFrom(NavigatingCancelEventArgs e) { } which is the same as handling the NavigationService.Navigating event as indicated by BugFinder's answer. In this method e.NavigationMode always returns New when when you hit the Back or Forward Button. The only time this method returns Back is when you explicitly call NavigationService.GoBack()

• MVVM Light - master / child views and dependency properties

  I'm getting an odd problem when implementing a master / child view and custom dependency properties. Within my master view I'm binding the view model declaratively in the XAML as follows: DataContext="{Binding MainViewModelProperty, Source={StaticResource Locator}}" and my MainViewModel is exposing an observable collection which I'm binding to an ItemsControl as follows: <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Lists}" Height="490" Canvas.Top="10" Width="70"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Canvas> <local:TaskListControl Canvas.Left="{Binding ListLeft}" Canvas.Top="{Binding ListTop}" Width="{Binding ListWidth}" Height="{Binding ListHeight}" ListDetails="{Binding}"/> </Canvas> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> TaskListControl in turn declares and bind to it's ViewModel and I've also defined a dependency property for the ListDetails property. The ListDetails property is not being set and if I remove the declarative reference to it's viewmodel the dependency property's callback does get fired. Is there a conflict with declaratively binding to viewmodels and definig dependency properties? I really like MVVM Light's blendability and want to perserve with this problem so any help would be apprectiated. If you'd like to receive the source for my project then please ask

• Flex: embedded fonts not being applied correctly in Label and DataGrid

  Folks, I am observing a problem with how an embedded font is applied to certain Flex components, namely mx:Label and mx:DataGrid. I have a CSS that declares three variations on an embedded font as follows: @font-face { src:url("buttons.swf"); font-family: "Arial"; } @font-face { src:url("buttons.swf"); font-family: "Arial"; font-weight: bold; } @font-face { src:url("buttons.swf"); font-family: "Arial"; font-style: italic; } And in the style declaration for Label and DataGrid, I have: Label { fontFamily: "Arial"; fontSize: 11; fontFamily: LucidaSans; } and DataGrid { fontFamily: "Arial"; height: 16; } (I've snipped some stuff from both style rules, so if you think there's something that may be causing a conflict I can certainly post the entire definition. It's mostly color, line and padding stuff for the DataGrid.) The problem that is for both Label and cells in the DataGrid the text is being rendered as sort of a times new roman font. The headers in the DataGrid are fine, just the text in the cells is wonky. All other components use the correct font as defined in the CSS/SWF. Any ideas why this is happening?
