using bash: write bit representation of integer to file

Hullo First, I want to use bash for this and the script should run on as many systems as possible (I don't know if the target system will have python or whatever installed). Here's the problem: I have a file with binary data and I need to replace a few bytes in a certain position. I've come up with the following to direct bash to the offset and show me that it found the place I want: dd bs=1 if=file iseek=24 conv=block cbs=2 | hexdump Now, to use "file" as the output: echo anInteger | dd bs=1 of=hextest.txt oseek=24 conv=block cbs=2 This seems to work just fine, I can review the changes made in a hex editor. Problem is, "anInteger" will be written as the ASCII representation of that integer (which makes sense) but I need to write the binary representation. How do I tell the command to convert the input to binary (possibly from a hex)?

jQuery and CodeIgniter AJAX with JSON not working

Hello, I trying to make my first AJAX with JSON call using jQuery and CodeIgniter. But for some weird reason it's not working. The jQuery code: var item = "COOL!"; $.post("http://192.168.8.138/index.php/main/test", { "item" : item }, function(data){ alert(data.result); }, "json"); The CodeIgniter code: <?php class main extends Controller { function test() { $item = trim($this->input->post('item')); $array = array('result' => $item); echo json_encode($array); } } ?> I tried to access the http://192.168.8.138/index.php/main/test page manually and it seems to be working, I got: {"result":""} I also tried to use Firebug to see XMLHttpRequest but saw nothing. Is this a configuration issue on my linux box, or just a difference in the way namespaces and autoloading is handled on the different operating systems

How do you save rows to an array and print out in PHP using ODBC?

I have the following: while($myRow = odbc_fetch_array( $result )){ <--lots of rows $thisResult['name'] = $myRow["name"] ; $thisResult['race'] = $myRow["race"] ; $thisResult['sex'] = $myRow["sex"]; $thisResult['dob'] = $myRow["dob"]; } I can't figure out how to print this back out. I want to get each row and iterate through each row in the array like a datareader. I'm not sure what to do. I do not want to do the echo in the while. I need to be able to print it out elsewhere. But I don't think I've done it right here to be able to print it later. I also tried, this, however: while($myRow = odbc_fetch_array( $result )){ <--lots of rows print($thisResult[$myRow["name"]] = $myRow); } I then tried: while($myRow = odbc_fetch_array( $result )){ <--lots of rows print (odbc_result($myRow,"name")); } but got an error. Modify HTML Content with Squid

We have setup our network as per the tutorial here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Upside-Down-TernetHowTo. Basically, we have a squid proxy that inverts images for pages that clients request. We're trying to modify the script so that we can edit the contents of the webpage before the webpage is sent to the client. We are not having any luck. I'm wondering if there is something different about .html files that makes this not possible. What is happening is that we do a wget on the URI that is requested, save it locally, modify it and then echo back the new URI. The page that the user gets is the unmodified page and not the one that we just changed.

I'm trying to code a batch file to copy only the most recently dated file in a given folder to another directory on the local machine, and simultaneously rename it as it does. I've found a very similar question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/97371/batch-script-to-copy-newest-file and have managed to cobble together the below code from other forums too, but have hit a brick wall as it only results in the batch file itself being copied to the destination folder. It doesn't matter to me where the batch file itself sits in order for this to run. The source folder is C:! BATCH and the destination folder is C:\DROP The code is below, apologies if this is a glaringly obvious answer but it's literally the first foray into coding batch files for me... Can I use array_push on a SESSION array in php?

I have an array that I want on multiple pages, so I made it a SESSION array. I want to add a series of names and then on another page, I want to be able to use a foreach loop to echo out all the names in that array. This is the session: $_SESSION['names'] I want to add a series of names to that array using array_push like this: array_push($_SESSION['names'],$name); I am getting this error: array_push() [function.array-push]: First argument should be an array Can I use array_push to put multiple values into that array? Or perhaps there is a better, more efficient way of doing what I am trying to achieve?

Packet Crafting on a Mac

I think (based on searching the forums), that NetCat is the best option, but wanted to hear if others are preferable. Anyone have good success with a packet-crafting tool (specifically on Mac)? I've tried HPing, but had some issues. I'm looking into NetCat ('nc' on mac) now, but it's not working as I had thought. Basically, I captured some packets that a remote control sends over a wifi network to turn lights on and off (using X10 controllers), and am looking for a way to replay them by crafting a TCP packet from the command line. I used Wireshark to sniff the traffic, so I know the package is: DEVICE -sendplc-"C4 DIM 10" I'm trying: echo 'DEVICE -sendplc-"C4 DIM 10"' nc 192.168.2.196 6003 but there's no response from the receiving system. Firefox fails to detect content type set by PHP

Hi all, I want a php page to 'display' a pdf. Here is the code: <?php header("Content-type: application/pdf"); readfile('Reportage - Berlin.pdf'); //tried echo(readfile(...)) as well ?> Not very complicated I think, but somehow firefox cant detect that this is a pdf. This works in Safari but in firefox, i get a prompt to download the file, so i get like a pdftest.php file. I know im getting my file because if I rename the extension to pdf, i can open it. This seems too simple! am i missing something?

Anyway, I'm just trying to print the time in nanoseconds every second here, and I have this: #!/usr/bin/env bash while true; do date=(date +%N) ; echo $date ; sleep 1 ; done Now, that simply yields a string of date's, which isn't what I want. My learning has been rather messy, so I hope you'll excuse me for this if it's really simple. Also, I did manage to fine this, that worked on the prompt: while true ; do date +%N ; sleep 1 ; done But that obviously doesn't work as a script.

How to make the yuicompressor jar file a singleton, or globally accessible?

I'd like to put the yuicompressor jar file in a single folder so that I can call java -jar yuicompressor-2.4.2.jar ... from anywhere on my system, with cygwin. For bash files I use I simply put them in a common folder, and added the folder's path to my windows user's PATH environment variable and the bash commands were found in cygwin. when I echo $PATH I see the folder I put the yuicompressor jar into listed in the $PATH.. But when I try java -jar yuicompressor-2.4.2.jar ... I get the following error message: Unable to access jarfile yuicompressor-2.4.2.jar Even when I try providing an absolute path to the jarfile I get the same error message.. How can I do this?
