  I want to write a page where user's can write a blog post and publish it to the blog. I've downloaded blog engine .NET and looked at the code and I like the way they do it, but it's completely an overkill of what I need. What I need is only a title, author, date, and the blog post it self. I don't even want users to post comments or anything like that. My approach is to save all those blog post information into an xml and then when a page loads it loops around those xml files to show the blog post. Is there a tutorial on how to do this online? Especially for doing blog posts.

  I'm writing a custom web server. When I enter the URL of my server in the browser, I get the sample text I write out to the socket in my browser correctly. This is the HTTP response that I write: HTTP/1.1 200 OK\r\n Server: My Server\r\n Date: Blah\r\n \r\n This is some sample text. This appears in my browser correctly when I connect directly to the server entering the URL. However, if I use Ajax (jQuery) to access the same URL and then set the innerHTML of an element on the HTML page, I do not get any data printed. Is there any other header I need to set on my web server so that the browser's XMLHttpRequest object detects the response?

Part of my work on the MongoDB NoRM drivers, discussed in more details by Rob Conery, is to write an efficient and maintainable BSON serializer and deserializer. The goal of the serializer is that you give it a .NET object and you get a byte array out of it which represents valid BSON.   I want to install libgflags-dev. According to this launchpad link, it is present in the ubuntu repositories : https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gflags and http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/libdevel/libgflags-dev But when i try to sudo apt-get install it, I get E: Unable to locate package libgflags-dev Why is this happening ? I have all multiverse and universe enabled from software center. How to install it from apt-get ? P.S. I know i can simply download the binary and make install it, but I want to know how to do this from apt-get.

• Ant Copy Task: Failed to copy due to java.io.FileNotFoundException

  I'm trying to compile a Flex application in Ant (no problems here, I can do it fine). When I try to publish the contents of the project to a Windows network drive (known as "Z:\" on my system), I get the following LAME exception thrown by Java/Ant: BUILD FAILED C:\workspace\bkeller\build.xml:42: Failed to copy C:\workspace\bkeller\web\assets\text\biography.html to Z:\web\bkeller\assets\text\biography.html due to java.io.FileNotFoundException Z:\web\bkeller\assets\text\biography.html (The system cannot find the file specified) Which kind of sucks. I can't find any way to get rid of this problem and it's pretty crucial to my project that I get this working. I know for sure that I have read/write/execute permissions on the network drive, I can create/edit/delete files on the drive just fine through Windows explorer. Drive Z is a network mount to virtualbox, allowing me to get access to my host OS, Ubuntu. I've double checked that it has write permissions. Any ideas?

  After about 15 minutes, a Norton Ghost 14 backup fails with Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. The source computer is a P4 laptop running Windows XP SP3. The target computer is a Core2 Quad desktop running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. It does not help to disable Norton 360 on the source computer or Norton Antivirus 2008 on the target computer. The Event Viewer consistently shows the same two VSS-related errors after Norton Ghost starts but before it fails. It makes no difference if the VSS service is started or stopped. The VSS errors do not appear elsewhere in the event log, only after Ghost starts. The MSS event messages, however, are quite common, appearing throughout the log, and they may have nothing to do with the problem. I figured out how to undo the last 2 changes: :1,$s/\(...\)\(...\)/\2\1/g :1,$s/\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)\(.\)/\2\4\1\3/g I'd like you to explain me what do the first two regex do. What does \1 or \2\2\2 mean before the forward slash? I assume that after the slash they change place (but wouldn't it be enough to just write \2\1 instead of \2\2\2\1\2(what does it mean?)? I just don't get it). And what does & or && mean? Thank you

String: $QData{"OrigFrom"} $Text{"wrote"}: Note: That is the actual STRING. Those are NOT variables. I didn't write it. I need to replace that string with nothing.   I'm wondering how you'd recommend designin a class, given the fact that XNA Framework uses Struct all over the place? For example, a spite class, which may require a Vector2 and a Rectangle (both defined as Struct) to be accessed outside of the class. The issue come in when you try to write code like this: class Item { public Vetor2 Position {get; set;} public Item() { Position = new Vector2(5,5); } } Item i = new Item(); i.Positon.X = 20; // fails with error 'Cannot modify the return value of Item because it is not a variable.' // you must write code like this var pos = i.Position; pos.X++; i.Position = pos; The second option compiles and works, but it is just butt ugly. Is there a better way?

  Ok so last year I participated in a high school curriculum contest thing at a college(I currently attend this college). I actually got 1st in it but was still a bit angry I didn't get every single one right. The most baffling of questions on there was How many lines of code does the average programmer write per day? A. 5 B. 10 C. 25 D. 30 Aside from being a subjective question which depended on language and everything else I was more baffled at what they had as the correct answer. 10. Even on my bad days at my job I touch more than 10 lines of code(either adding, modifying, or deleting) per day. And when I took this test I had only programmed as a hobby where it was common for me to write a few hundred lines for one of my new projects per day. • How do you uninstall wine 1.5?

  I installed Wine through the terminal using these commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install wine1.5 I know that I've removed at least part of wine. I removed the .wine folder in my home folder and I managed to remove the repository via this command: sudo apt-add-repository --remove ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa Now when I try to install wine 1.4 via Ubuntu software center, it tells me I must remove these items to install wine: Microsoft windows compatibility layer (binary emulator and library) wine1.5 Microsoft windows compatibility layer (64-bit support) wine1.5-amd64 Microsoft windows compatibility layer (32-bit support) wine1.5-i386:i386 I've already tried this command: sudo apt-get --purge remove wine but it said that wine wasn't installed. Some assistance would be appreciated.

• Emacs: selective c-auto-newline

  When c-auto-newline is set to non-nil, it re-indents the current line and inserts a carriage return and then indents the new line. However. I'm using 1TBS indent-style, which means if/else statements are made like this: if (n == 1) { exit(EXIT_SUCCESS); } else { perror("n"); } Also, I write do/while write loops like this: do { printf("%d\n", n++); } while (n < 64); As such, while I do want a newline automatically inserted after every opening brace and semicolon, I don't want newlines to be automatically inserted after an if statement or do loop is concluded with a closing brace. How can I have GNU Emacs (23.2.1, *nix) selectively insert newlines like that? Along the same lines, can I have Emacs insert an opening brace, a newline, and a closing brace on another newline, while putting the cursor in the middle of the two braces after closing parentheses following an if statement, function declaration, and the like?

• First TDD, Simple 2-tier C# Project - what do I unit test?

  This is probably a stupid question but my googling isn't finding a satisfactory answer. I'm starting a small project in C#, with just a business layer and a data access layer - strangely, the UI will come later, and I have very little (read:no) concept / control over what it will look like. I would like to try TDD for this project. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 (soon to be 2010), I have ReSharper 5, and nUnit. Again, I want to do Test-Driven Development, but not necessarily the entire XP system. My question is - when and where do I write the first unit test? Do I only test logic before I write it, or do I test everything? It seems counter-productive to test things that have no reason to fail (auto-properties, empty constructors)...but it seems like the "No new code without a failing test" maxim requires this. Links or references are fine (but preferably to online resources, not books - I would like to get started ASAP). Thanks in advance for any guidance!

• Why is code quality not popular?

  I like my code being in order, i.e. properly formatted, readable, designed, tested, checked for bugs, etc. In fact I am fanatic about it. (Maybe even more than fanatic...) But in my experience actions helping code quality are hardly implemented. (By code quality I mean the quality of the code you produce day to day. The whole topic of software quality with development processes and such is much broader and not the scope of this question.) Code quality does not seem popular. Some examples from my experience include Probably every Java developer knows JUnit, almost all languages implement xUnit frameworks, but in all companies I know, only very few proper unit tests existed (if at all). I know that it's not always possible to write unit tests due to technical limitations or pressing deadlines, but in the cases I saw, unit testing would have been an option. If a developer wanted to write some tests for his/her new code, he/she could do so. My conclusion is that developers do not want to write tests. Static code analysis is often played around in small projects, but not really used to enforce coding conventions or find possible errors in enterprise projects. Usually even compiler warnings like potential null pointer access are ignored. Conference speakers and magazines would talk a lot about EJB3.1, OSGI, Cloud and other new technologies, but hardly about new testing technologies or tools, new static code analysis approaches (e.g. SAT solving), development processes helping to maintain higher quality, how some nasty beast of legacy code was brought under test, ... (I did not attend many conferences and it propably looks different for conferences on agile topics, as unit testing and CI and such has a higer value there.) So why is code quality so unpopular/considered boring? EDIT: Thank your for your answers. Most of them concern unit testing (and has been discussed in a related question). But there are lots of other things that can be used to keep code quality high (see related question). Even if you are not able to use unit tests, you could use a daily build, add some static code analysis to your IDE or development process, try pair programming or enforce reviews of critical code.

• Finding the Geo-location on a Blackberry?

  I'm running into an issue when trying to geolocate users whom are using blackberry devices. Currently there are a few checks that I go through to geolocate the individual the first, using the navigator paramater inside browsers. if(navigator.geolocation) if this fails then I have a backup using a free service (for testing) from maxmind: See Here Yet this doesn't return back the city at all either. I've then tried using the JSPI that google maps proviedes, and echoing out the google.loader.ClientLocation: if (google.loader.ClientLocation != null) { document.write("Your Location Is: " + google.loader.ClientLocation.address.city + ", " + google.loader.ClientLocation.address.region + " lat: " + google.loader.ClientLocation.latitude + " Long: " + google.loader.ClientLocation.longitude); } else { document.write("Your Location Was Not Detected By Google Loader"); } When this didn't work I tried following the google maps 3.0 detect location seen here: Detecting Location I've done all this after seeing this work correctly in google latitude.. so I know there has to be a way to get the location... any thoughts, ideas on what I could possibly try? • JIT compiler for C, C++, and the likes

  Is there any just-in-time compiler out there for compiled languages, such as C and C++? (The first names that come to mind are Clang and LLVM! But I don't think they currently support it.) Explanation: I think the software could benefit from runtime profiling feedback and aggressively optimized recompilation of hotspots at runtime, even for compiled-to-machine languages like C and C++. Profile-guided optimization does a similar job, but with the difference a JIT would be more flexible in different environments. In PGO you run your binary prior to releasing it. After you released it, it would use no environment/input feedbacks collected at runtime. So if the input pattern is changed, it is probe to performance penalty. But JIT works well even in that conditions. However I think it is controversial wether the JIT compiling performance benefit outweights its own overhead. Edit: Grammar

After the installation I tried to execute dssp which was in /usr/local/bin/dssp But it gave me the following error bash: /usr/local/bin/dssp: cannot execute binary file Also I tried to analyse some trajectory files from a simulation using the code do_dssp -s md.tpr -f traj.xtc But it also failed giving me the error below Reading file md.tpr, VERSION 4.5.5 (single precision) Reading file md.tpr, VERSION 4.5.5 (single precision) Segmentation fault (core dumped) Please post me a solution for this problem. • Debugging ASP.NET Strings Downloaded to Browser (Montréal instead of Montréal)

  I'm downloading a vCard to the browser using Response.Write to output .NET strings with special accented characters. Mime type is text/x-vcard and French characters are appearing wrong in Outlook, for example Montréal;Québec .NET string shows as Montréal Québec in browser. I'm using this vCard generator code from CodeProject.com I've played with the System.Encoding sample code at the bottom of this linked MSDN page to convert the unicode string into bytes and then write the ascii bytes but then I get Montr?al Qu?bec (progress but not a win). Also I've tried setting content type to both us-ascii and utf-8 of the response. If I open the downloaded vCard in Windows Notepad and save it as ANSI text (instead of default unicode format) and open in Outlook it's okay. So my assumption is I need to cause download of ANSI charset but am unsure if I'm doing it wrong or have a misunderstanding of where to start. Update: Looking at the raw HTTP, it appears my French characters are being downloaded in the unexpected format so it looks like I need to do some work on the server side... (full size)

Here is my sample data: **Name** **Abbrev** Mike M Tom T Jim J Using that data, I want to create an array in php that is of the following: 1|Mike|M 2|Tom|T 3|Jim|j I tried array_push($values, 'name', 'abbreviation') [pseudo code], which gave me the following: 1|Mike 2|M 3|Tom 4|T 5|Jim 6|J I need to do a look up against this array to get the same key value, if I look up "Mike" or "M". What is the best way to write my result set into an array as set above where name and abbreviation share the same key?
